Job Summary:
Sets up and operates CNC Burn Table (Whitney, Kinetic or similar) machine to cut or perform other machining operations on steel in the manufacture of parts for heavy machinery. Determines operation sequence, selects and adjusts machine to perform proper cutting/burning of plate. Trains and inspects work of other shop personnel in the correct operation of CNC burn table processes.
A. REQUIREMENTS:
Experience/Knowledge –
• Minimum 3 yrs. experience as a CNC machine operator with burn table experience or other related CNC machine operator in a heavy industry, or similar demonstrated numerically controlled machine operation abilities.
• Fork lift and Jib crane experience required.
• Good knowledge of and experience working with steel.
• Layout, drilling, and light welding.
Job related skills –
• Must be safety oriented - will be operating press brake, jib crane and fork lift.
• Fabrication skill preferred for understanding layout.
• Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints and B.O.M.s.
• Safe material handling skills.
• Must be able to work efficiently and accurately to keep up with production requirements.
Education –
• Ability to read, write and perform simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, understand fractions and able to convert decimals into inches).
• Must be able to understand measurements and use calculator.
• Must have successfully completed appropriate on-the-job or formal training in CNC Burn table or similar computer numeric controlled machinery operation.
Learning Ability - Quick learner. Parts are unique to manufactured equipment and change orders are frequent.
Personality - Able to cope with pressures and deadlines. Flexible, able to adapt to rapidly changing situations.
Communications Skills: Must be able to demonstrate skill in communicating with supervisors and co-workers. Must express criticisms & concerns in a way that promotes teamwork and a positive work environment.
B. DUTIES:
Essential Functions:
• Read prints and check for errors.
• Layout and burn/cut structural steel (some weighing as much as 1000 lbs.) on Whitney or Kinetic burn tables according to blueprints.
• Crane operation and minimal fork lift operation.
• Identify and number material for fabrication, as well as material to be sent out for further machining.
• May operate other computer numeric controlled machinery as needed to meet production.
• Welding may be required on occasion.
Nonessential Functions:
Miscellaneous other duties as directed by the plant superintendent.

5. Carrying - Continuous
Weight - up to 30 lbs.
Objects carried - include, but not limited to pumps, pieces of steel, large sheaves, misc. parts and other objects.
Distance - 15 - 20 ft.
Many parts weigh much in excess of 60 lbs. They can be carried with a cart, crane, fork lift or hand truck. Some parts under 60 lbs. can also be carried with a crane, cart, fork lift or hand truck.
Forklifts and cranes must not be operated unless training and permission have been obtained from the shop superintendent.
6. Pushing/Pulling - Continuous
Weight - up to 600 to 1000 lbs. on infeed and outfeed rolls.
Objects pushed or pulled - include, but not limited to structural steel, miscellaneous parts and other objects.
Distance - 15 ft. to 20 ft.
Forklifts and cranes must not be operated unless training and permission have
been obtained from the shop superintendent.
7. Reaching/Handling with both hands and arms - Continuous
Distance - varies a few inches to four feet.
8. Repetitive fine manipulation of hands - Frequently to continuous. 25% of working time is spent pulling and positioning pieces of steel onto saw. 25% of working time is spent removing steel from saw.
9. Bending/Squatting - Frequently
10. Twisting, bending from waist and knees - Occasional
11. Climbing - Intermittent, if ever.
12. Crawling - Intermittent, if ever.
Surface - primarily on concrete floor.
13. Environmental factors - Indoors; yet exposed to heat and cold (when overhead doors are left open), humidity, noise, welding lights, grinding dust, vibration, fumes and oil. Hearing protection and eye protection must be worn at all times in shop or production areas. Safety-toed work shoes/boots are required to be worn in shop or production areas.
14. Machines/Tools/Equipment used as part of the job.
Include, but not limited to fork lifts, cranes, sanders, electric and air grinders, all hand tools as may be required for job (vice grips, wrenches, calculator, square, layout tools and measuring tapes, etc.)
